Joe Thornton Signs with Florida Panthers

Former Bruins and Sharks Star Joins Sunshine State Squad

One-Year Deal Inks Veteran to Contending Team

The Florida Panthers have announced the signing of veteran defenseman Joe Thornton to a one-year contract. The move adds a wealth of experience and leadership to the Panthers' already strong lineup.

"We're excited to welcome Joe Thornton to the Panthers organization," said general manager Bill Zito. "He's a proven winner with a lot of hockey left in him. He'll be a valuable asset to our team on and off the ice."

Thornton, 43, is a 24-year NHL veteran who has played for the Boston Bruins, San Jose Sharks, and Toronto Maple Leafs. He has won the Art Ross Trophy as the league's leading scorer three times and is a six-time NHL All-Star.

In 1,714 career games, Thornton has recorded 1,539 points (463 goals, 1,076 assists). He is currently ranked 13th all-time in NHL assists and 22nd all-time in points.

Thornton is expected to play a key role on the Panthers' power play and provide leadership to a young team with Stanley Cup aspirations. The Panthers missed the playoffs last season, but they have made significant improvements to their roster this offseason, including the addition of Thornton.

The signing of Thornton is a clear indication that the Panthers are serious about competing for the Stanley Cup. With a veteran core led by Aleksander Barkov, Jonathan Huberdeau, and Aaron Ekblad, the Panthers are now one of the favorites to win the Eastern Conference.
